Visiting but not Staying at Canopy Tower Panama

Hi!

We will be visiting Panama next February. Since it is a family trip I plan not to stay at the expensive Canopy Tower. We will be spending some nights at Summit Rainforest Golf Resort and an airbnb near Gamboa.

I’m just wondering if we could drive to Canopy Tower and walk around their property, like the Semaphore Hill. Then finding the banana tree mentioned in everyone’s report…

Thanks.

This was possible in 2012 but I don’t know if that is still the case. Tell them you are investigating the place as the possible site for a small destination wedding.

The “property” is a very small compound around the tower itself, it would take about three minutes to tour it. When I stayed there earlier this year, there was a group that came for lunch and did some birdwatching. I imagine if you contacted them, you could get a lunch booking. However most mammals are seen at night or early morning, and I doubt you will get access then.

In any case most mammals we saw were on Semaphore Road. You can park at the bottom and walk up it without problems.

Having re-read your post, I noticed the emphasis on family. Visiting the tower and climbing to the observation deck would be fun for the family, the views are great, and there is a hummingbird feeding deck there as well. However advance contact would be needed and most likely only for lunch, and I would not hold out much hope for mammals. (I saw casual drive-up visitors being turned away)

Thank you for the reply. I found it on their website the lunch/breakfast visit is still $140 per person. Too expensive for the 5 of us. Then I found this in a trip report on this website. “you can park at the very beginning of the Semaphore road (the parking is here for people visiting the Plantation road popular among local cyclists) and walk up the road till the gate of the Tower and back. The road is gated for vehicles but does not hesitate to use the road for walking. The road goes through the Soberania national park and is not a private property. Only small gated territory around the Tower itself is privately owned. Potentially the Tower staff can ask you something if they meet you there as the only place this road is leading to is the Tower. But they are friendly and most likely there will be no problems”
