Video of family of Striped weasels
Here’s a great video of a family of three Striped weasels (Poecilogale albinucha) giving a threat display. It was taken by Julius Simsonga on the farm close to Kipengere Game Reserve in southern Tanzania. There is very little footage of Striped weasel behaviour and in this video you can see that they can be quite bold and aggressive towards people. The farm staff say that if you annoy them they will chase after you – like miniature Honey badgers! If you turn the sound up you can hear their calls as they challenge Julius. The farm staff are looking for weasel denning sites and will hopefully figure out how to track down these amazing little animals, which are very high on my ‘most wanted’ list.
