Trip Report – Qinghai’s Snow Leopards & Other Tibetan Mammals – Royle Safaris – Jul / Aug 2024
Royle Safaris was back in China in the summer of 2024, to repeat our successful 2023 mammalwatching trip to the Tibetan Plateau. With another group of intrepid mammalwatchers and our expect team of local guides we headed to Qinghai and explored the rich grasslands and rocky escarpments in search of some of Central Asia’s most iconic mammals.
This report is largely compiled by our local guide and contains some great pictures and an overview of the mammal sightings enjoyed on the trip.
The trip resulted in an impressive 22 species of mammals, which is a huge total for the harsh habitat of the Tibetan plateau and highlights including snow leopard, Pallas’s cat (including 10 sightings), multiple Tibetan blue bears, steppe polecat, Tibetan antelope and wild yak!
Royle Safaris will be running this trip again in 2025 (dates 26th July – 9th August 2025), the trip is confirmed to run and we have 3 places still available.
