Trip Report – Gabon Wildlife Adventure & Ivindo National Park Extension – Royle Safaris – Jun / Jul 2024

In the summer 2024 Royle Safaris was back in Gabon for another successful wildlife watching trip. Focused around the mandrill’s breeding season the trip would visit three of the best wildlife watching locations in the whole of Central Africa. Starting with a an optional pre-tour extension to Ivindo National Park which nearly all of the participants chose to book and then visiting Lope National Park and then finishing in Loango National Park.

Alongside the mandrills other key species seen were western gorillas, red-capped mangabeys, African forest elephants, common chimpanzees and black colobus. However with the expert help of our tour leader (Alex Meyer) and local guides at each location we were also able to see lesser seen species such as Beecroft’s anomalure, western yellow-backed duiker, Gabon squirrel galago, northern talapoins and several bat species (6 species).

We have two Gabon tours heading out in the summer of 2025, one is fully booked, but we do have places available on both the main trip and pre-tour Ivindo extension. If you are interested in this option please contact us on info@royle-safaris.co.uk for more information or find out more on our website (https://www.royle-safaris.co.uk/itineraries/gabon-wildlife-adventure/).
