Tips on kitti’s hog-nosed bats Thailand

Hi all, I will be in Thailand during the latter part of November. One of my goals is to see the Kitti’s hog-nosed bat. Does anyone have any tips on where to look or can recommend a guide who can assist? Thanks!

There are a couple caves in Kanchanaburi that one can theoretically try although I’ve had no luck in caves there. But I have seen them in the ruins at Wat Prasat Sing Kanchanaburi. My son and I have explored the Angkor ruins there and many of the Prasats have bats, although most are bearded tomb bats…some Megaderma too… But if you are lucky you may find those tiny little Kitti’s in one as I have in the past. Worth a try as you head deeper in to the caves further north. I am not one to give advice on those however.

We found the more rustic and unrestored the prasat ruin, the more batty they were too

Thanks for the info! I will definitely add this to the itinerary and do some exploring. Is the place you mentioned the same as Muang Singh historical park?

Go to Sai Yok National Park. From the park buildings it is an easy walk about 1.5 km to Tham Kaeng Kaew (cave). If I recall correctly there was a cave guardian there at the time (2017 March); we (with Ian Dugdale) saw about 20 Kitti’s Hog-nosed Bat. I have the cave coords as 14.433729° / 98.862469°.
