Thermal Imaging in Turkey

Any body any recent experience of travelling and using, or knowledge of legality of using,  a thermal imager in Turkey. I know that there have been posts a while ago about various other countries and I have used one for mammals in various African countries with no issues. Not seen any information on Turkey and struggling to find any accurate source of information.

I was in Turkey with a thermal scope in May 2023. Nobody said anything at airport security, and I don’t know where else it could come up. No idea about the far eastern part where army/police checkpoints might be an issue.

2022, 2024, no problem with IR. I have been in Turkey many times, never was anyone interested in anything in my luggage.

Also no problem in May 2023, at the airport or anywhere as far east as Şanlıurfa.

I’ve lived in Turkey for much of the past seven years and have had almost no issues travelling back and forth to many countries with my thermal scope from Turkey. However there was once… a call to my Turkish wife sorted that out with the customs official but you might not have that option! My advice is to always carry it in your hand luggage not your check-in luggage, that’s more likely to cause an issue. No problems within the country using it though in remote areas be aware that villagers may call officialdom if they see you out with a lamp and a ‘scope…
