The Weekly Recap

Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!

The first trip report of the week was from this brief one by Luis A. Román-Luzuriaga from Amazon’s Birds Natural Reserve in Colombia. He ended up seeing 8 primate species there including the Pygmy Marmoset – check out the report for more information about the reserve.

Next up is John Wright’s weekend in Victoria, Australia during which he saw a Koala and a Joey (I’m very jealous), Leadbeater’s Possum, Yellow-bellied Glider and quite a few more!

Next is a trip report from Ravi Kailas of Ficus Tours’ trip to Northwest India, where his group saw Jungle Cats, Indian Wolf, Asiatic Lion and more.

The last trip report is Asanoth’s from Thailand, with cool species like Grey-bellied Squirrel, Leopard Cat and a Smooth-coated Otter!

Quite a few new trips have been announced that are available to join if you are interested. Daniel Boyland, travelling to Mupi Gunung, West Papua in May would love a few travel companions – there will be a good chance of seeing Grizzled and Ursine Tree Kangaroos.

In November of 2026, Wildlife Trails will be organising a cheap Polar Bear tour in Churchill, Canada – by train, too! Sounds incredibly cosy to me. On this trip last year Allan Blanchard got to see the Northern Lights while dog-sledding, which sounds absolutely incredible.

There is also a mega Antarctica cruise happening in January of 2027 that I regret to inform you I will be participating in… If that wasn’t enough to put you off, then check out the post for more information about this once in a lifetime trip (and my dad’s painfully bad pun with the word “cool”). I am very excited to finally be able to wear my pink coat AND my pink gloves like 5 year old me always dreamt of.

James Wolftenscroft, travelling to Hainan Island, China would love any information or contacts for seeing mammals there, and someone travelling to Turkey is wondering how legal thermal scopes are there.

Finally, Jason Chapman has shared a photo of a hyrax he saw at the Masai Lodge in Nairobi NP and would love some help identifying it.
