The Weekly Recap
Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!
The first trip report of the week was John Wright’s trip to Tasmania last November. Highlights include a great photo of a Platypus, several Spot-tailed and Eastern Quolls and a Tazzy Devil.
As I’m sure you all have deep and sorrowful empathy for the years of mammalwatching I’ve been put through by my father, imagine my horror when a “normal” holiday to Tasmania organised by my very own brother turned out to have a similar theme. They do say it is always those closest to us who betray us. Maybe I’ll forgive him someday, but in the meantime know that his preferred animals are actually insects… I hope this is enough fuel for you to wish to avenge me.
Next is my dad’s trip report from Bolivia… I really can’t catch a break in this family. Please help me. It includes some impressive water-drinking acrobatics from a Brown Capuchin, a cute Goeldi’s Monkey, Bolivian River Dolphin and Four-eyed Opossum. I feel like the guy who named that one might’ve done it out of revenge for his childhood bullies… They were also interviewed by a TV news crew at the airport about their trip AND gave a lecture at the university, which makes me very fearful for the future of Bolivia’s children.
Next is a short report from Stuart Chapman’s trip to Siberut Island, Sumatra where he saw Pig-tailed Langur, Golden-bellied Treeshrew and Sipora Flying Squirrel among other cool species.
This report from French Guiana by Jan Ebr saw a whopping 40 species including Giant Armadillo, Silky Anteater and Kinkajou.
Next is this Enigmatic Wildlife Tours trip to Sabah, Borneo led by Keith Barnes. They found a beautiful Clouded Leopard, a Tarsier, Moonrat and – best of all – some fresh Banteng poo 😋
This short report from a night of Australian spotlighting includes several Southern Greater Gliders, Common Wombats, and Eastern Grey Kangaroos.
This post from Matt Pep highlights a few species he saw in Borneo and Java back in 2011 such as Bornean Orangutan, Java Rusa, and Southeast Asian Palm Civet.
If Vietnam or any of its species are on your bucket list, Royle Safaris are running a two week trip there in April looking for primates like all three douc langurs and Delacour’s Langur. Check out this post for more information.
An Asian Golden Cat has been seen 3 nights running in Tangjiahe, China, a very rare occurrence – check out this post for pictures and a video.
Someone travelling to Central Europe at Easter would love some tips here.
Finally, a new travel guide to Georgia (the country) has been published and is briefly reviewed here if anyone is interested.
