The Weekly Recap

Hello, welcome back to the weekly recap!

This week has been on the quieter side in terms of trip reports, with only 3.

The first of these was Ralf Bürglin’s trip to Northern Spain during which he and his wife saw Small-spotted Genets, European Wildcat, Eurasian Brown Bears and many more great species.

The next was William Henri Lewis’ report from Kenya and Tanzania: with 53 and 43 species in each respective country (and some great repping of the mammalwatching t-shirt), I think it’s fair to say it was very productive! Some highlights were the Striped Hyena, Melanistic Leopard and the adorable Honey Badger.

Last but not least was Jacob Zinne’s trip report from a summer spent researching Milne-Edwards’ Sifakas in Ranomafana NP, Madagascar. He saw a total of 17 mammal species including many lemurs and several bats.

There is one space open on a Royle Safaris Panda special trip to Sichuan next March, previously sold out. These trips have been successful in finding Giant and Red Pandas, so definitely check it out if you’re interested. Moses Swanson is wondering what everyone’s honorary mammals are in this post, so comment yours! Mine would probably also be penguins – I always forget all that fluff is feathers, not fur.

As usual, several mammalwatchers would like some advice this week: how to find Kitti’s Hog-nosed Bats and also Binturong and other mammals in Thailand, a good wildlife guide in Bukit Lawang (Sumatra), and whether or not it is possible to just visit Canopy Tower, Panama without staying there. Finally, there is a question about American stoat species identification here and some advice needed on Vietnam (specifically about the weather in May and seeing a Red-shanked Douc).
