The Weekly Recap
Greetings. Welcome to the weekly recap:)
The first trip report of the week was Chris Townend’s from Mongolia, a special Snow Leopard tour with Wise Birding. Wise is definitely the right word seeing as they chose to mammalwatch instead!
This Royle Safaris trip to Kenya back in October was successful as usual, with over 60 species including Gunther’s Dik-dik, White-tailed Mongoose and Bat-eared Fox.
But the Kenya trips don’t stop there, with this report of Lake Baringo and Kakamega Forest Reserve from Dave Griswold. A cute colony of Eastern Rock Hyraxes, an African Palm Civet and Red-legged Sun Squirrel were just some of the species seen.
Finally, Alex Sower’s trip to Washington State saw some great species despite being short: Pacific Jumping Mouse, Columbian Ground Squirrel and Black Bear were some of the highlights.
My dad is starting to put together a trip to Antarctica for 2026/27, so check out the post if you’re interested in coming along. It’s an amazing opportunity to visit the last continent and see cool seals, beaked whales and my dad in a rare state of Wordle withdrawal. But don’t fear, as perhaps I will come too and you can trust me to valiantly sacrifice myself to keep him on his toes. If he trips and falls overboard on the 3rd day, it wasn’t me 😀
If you prefer a warmer and less Hall-filled climate, Chaco Wildlife are going to Paraguay in September with a 40% discount!
Two species need IDing this week: a Mouse-tailed bat and a Cambodian otter.
Finally, Tomer and his wife are travelling to Seychelles in August and are looking for some whale watching or Dugong recommendations.
