The Weekly Recap

Hello, welcome back the weekly recap!

The first set of trip reports are these 3 from Kenya by Dave Griswold, continuing his reports of last year’s tour: Lake Naivasha and Aberdare NP, Samburu NP and Lake Nakuru

As I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for, the next instalment of Rob and Romy’s It’s A Wild Life! series is here! This time from Laos and Cambodia, they saw a Laotian Langur, a Northern Treeshrew and a mysterious flying squirrel. I must say the word Laos still sends shivers down my spine, probably because of the week spent there covered in mud and leeches and having cold showers from a bucket. Oh, and I guess watching my dad almost plummet to his death on a faulty zipline. But mainly the leeches.

Next up is Andreas Jonsson’s Chile report. It was wildly successful, with 26 species including the Andean Mountain Cat, Garlepp’s Pampas Cat and a Kodkod and there are some stunning scenery shots.

Alex Sower’s hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in Canada got him some cool species like the Long and Short-tailed Weasel!

Here is my dad’s report from a cruise through Svalbard last month. Despite “a few issues” involving the cruise’s itinerary, they still managed to spot some great species like Bowhead Whales, Harp and Hooded Seals, Belugas and even Polar Bears feeding on a White-beaked Dolphin carcass.

Next is a trip to Eastern Brazil from Hugh Lansdown. It is full of stunning photos of all sorts of mammals, birds, insects and herps.

Part 2 of Pieter de Groot Boersma’s mammals of Australia trip is here, with videos of many different types of Possum and Glider set to nice music.

And speaking of video reports, this trip to the Western Ghats of India is also documented by Angiolo in youtube video form, with the Indian Sloth, Bengal Tiger, Bonnet Macaque, more great music and even a voiceover!

A trip to Northern Sumatra is reported here by Coke Smith, full of the usual great photos not only of mammals but also cool parts of his trip.

Finally, Tomer’s report of the Royle Safaris China expedition shows a very successful and long-awaited trip, and he finally saw his Giant Pandas!

If, like I used to, you dream each night of seeing a Eurasian Lynx so you can rub it in your dad’s face for all eternity, then look no further. I may have missed my chance, but Starling Tours are going to Estonia next February, so make sure to secure your spot!

And if, also like me, you pray each day to see a Solenodon, then you can join this Royle Safaris trip to the Dominican Republic next year! (This time it is irony by the way. I would never dream of seeing a mammal my dad already has.)

This week there are two different bats in need of IDing – one from Namibia and one from Albania. Also, Lars Nielsen has recommended a great spot to see Arctic Foxes in Iceland!

Finally, this week’s “What if?” is about large mammals in South Korea.

    Great recap as always.
I’m happy to see that Jon’s almost falling to his death got you almost as upset as the leeches. That’s a close second!
I’m also super honored that you used my red panda picture as the headline for this week’s recap! 😀
    Thank you!
    Cheers!

Hahah yes, although to be honest I don’t know if it was even close… And of course, I love the photo!
