Proserpine Rock Wallaby Airlie Beach

Can anyone help with details of Proserpine Rock Wallaby Airlie Beach, I cannot find any of the sites Jon mentions on google maps “Mount Lucas in Airlie Beach. The drive up the hill – Lucas Heights -is flanked by some expensive houses (indeed a local nickname for the road is the “Stairway to Heaven”) ”

Thanks

Mark – – looking at Google Maps then I think the road I mentioned is probably Staniland Drive up Mount Lucas (Strathdickie) which just north of Proserpine itself. Here is a bit of recent (July 2024) intel from the Aus Mammalwatching Group on Facebook courtesy of Isaac Clarey who saw them around there too. Sorry for the vague description!

Airlie Beach area: of course, I was well and truly hoping to connect with Proserpine Rock-wallaby while in this area. I knew that they could be found at Peter Fraust dam, futher west, but this was by no means a gimme. The vine forest and rocky slopes around Airlie Beach should still seemingly be great for this species but accessibility is so slim. I hopefully road cruised some known areas of the township but nothing was fortuitous, it really didn’t seem likely considering the very urbansied nature of this area these days. Instead, I spent a few long nights scouring the Peter Fraust dam area. No luck for Proserpine RW, but some really enjoyable mammal hits. Eventually as I broadened my horizons, I finally connected with Proserpine RW in the area around Strathdickie. A very exciting find which quickly took out highlight of the trip (for the time being).
