New Massive Borneo Nature Travel Guide. Free to Download

This is exciting.

Shavez Cheema, from 1StopBorneo Wildlife, has just released a massive new 700 page guide on Borneo’s wildlife. And mammalwatchers can download it for free here via google drive.

I have only started to flick through the book but can see how useful it will be, covering over 180 sites across Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan. Each listing incudes details of the wildlife, accommodation and transport options and in many cases there is contact info for local guides. I see many more trips in my future ….

They have even included links to some animated itineraries .. also hugely useful when thinking through the best way to plan a trip.

It must have been a mammoth effort to put this altogether. But, like Shavez, I hope it will prove worthwhile and encourage more mammalwatching and, hence, more community conservation projects across the whole island.

As Shavez says in his introduction:

“I have been blessed to visit numerous National Parks and locations for various purposes and research projects, and to have met thousands of tourists and nature lovers who have come to Borneo. It was evident however, that there were big gaps within the industry, and that the usual routes for travellers and tourists were generally restricted to Kuching, Mulu, Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu and Semporna.

There are many other amazing places and destinations that people should go to. To explore and to experience, to really get the best out of Borneo, and at the same time to elevate the people in their villages. The Travellers Kit section has been created to assist your learning of the nature of Borneo in a crash-course style.”

In between writing books, organising conferences and working on conservation projects, Shavez also manages to find time to run wildlife tours which help fund their conservation efforts.

We plan share more details very soon of some mammalwatching trips 1StopBorneo Wildlife are planning for next year.

Bring on the Tufted Ground Squirrels!
