Yes, the general consensus of opinion appears to be that the above sighting is of a Bornean Striped Palm Civet (Small-toothed Palm Civet) Arctogalidia stigmatica (trivirgata), it is possible that the images are of a previously unknown pelage variant. Hybridisation between Civet species is not well documented if at all, so that remains a very slim possibility. I have been impressed with the number of people who have contributed to the debate and made meaningful suggestions. In particular the following deserve a mention:
Jes Hooper (The Civet Project), Daniel Willcox and other members of the IUCN SSC Small Carnivore Specialist Group, members of the Borneo Mammal Group (Facebook), Mike Gordon (Wildlife guide extrordinaire) and last but not least Jon for giving the debate some direction and his encouragement and interest. There is little doubt the sighting was of as things stand, a rare mammal.

An update on this. John Weir shared with the IUCN’s small carnivore group. There seems consensus among them that this is a small-toothed palm civet.
