Miru Adventures is excited to share some awesome news with the mammal watching community—We have organized a unique itinerary to Brazil’s Cerrado, Pantanal, and Amazon Rainforest (see extension option) next year in search of some of South America’s most sought after species of mammals, including two iconic predators – The Jaguar and the Maned Wolf.

Expedition: In Search of Brazil’s Iconic Predators: Maned Wolves and Jaguars

Dates: August 16 – 27, 2025

Starts: Brasília, Brazil

Ends: Cuiabá, Brazil

Possible Mammals: Maned Wolf, Jaguar, Puma, Ocelot, Brazilian Tapir, Giant Anteater, Southern Tamandua, Giant and Neotropical River Otters, Giant, Southern Naked tailed, 3-banded, 6-banded, 7-banded, and 9-banded Armadillo’s, Hoary and Crab-eating Foxes, Long-tailed Porcupine, Crab-eating Racoon, South American Coati, Pampas Deer, Marsh Deer, Red and Brown Brocket Deer, White-lipped and Collared Peccaries, Capybara, Azara’s Agouti, Spix’s Yellow-toothed Cavy, Brazilian Guinea Pig, Tayra, Lesser Grison, Molina’s Hog-nosed Skunk, Margay, Jaguarundi, Bush Dog, Black-tufted-ear and Black-tailed Marmosets, Black-and-gold Howler, Azara’s and Black-striped Capuchins, Azara’s Night Monkey, White-eared, Southern, Common Four-eyed, and Agile Gracile Opossums, Common Tapeti, and a wide variety of rodents and bats.

Adventure Highlights:

This 12-day adventure promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, filled with opportunities to search for Brazil’s most iconic wildlife, including maned wolves, jaguars, pumas, ocelots, brazilian tapirs, giant anteaters, giant river otters, six species of armadillos, seven species of primates, and a vast array of stunning birds, reptiles and amphibians. We’ll also enjoy superb photographic opportunities with stunning landscapes and high concentrations of wildlife.

  • Explore Three World Class Biomes: We’ll travel through three of the planets most biodiverse ecosystems; the Brazilian Cerrado, the Pantanal, and the Amazon Rainforest (extension only). Explore these fascinating ecosystems on 4×4 safaris, river cruises, canoes, nature hikes, and for the adventurous – by bike or horseback.
  • Remote, Beautiful Accommodations: Stay in three stunning eco-lodges that offer farm-to-table cuisine and luxurious amenities, ensuring a comfortable and immersive experience in nature.
  • Expert Guidance: Our expedition will be led by Sam Riley, an award-winning filmmaker, wildlife photographer, and naturalist. Local guides will also join us throughout the journey, offering unique insight into finding specific species.

Itinerary Overview:

  • Day 1: Arrive in Brasília, welcome dinner and briefing.
  • Day 2-5: Stay at Pousada Trijunção, a remote eco-lodge on 33,000 hectares of protected Cerrado, exploring the unique habitat and its wildlife.
  • Day 6: Travel to Cuiabá and transfer via private charter plane to Porto Jofre, the land of the Jaguar.
  • Day 7-9: Explore three intersecting waterways known for their dense Jaguar Populations, with opportunities to see and photograph Jaguars up close in their prime habitat.
  • Day 10-11: Drive the infamous Transpantaneira before spending your last two nights at a beautiful lodge isolated in the Corixo, or floated area. Here you’ll have opportunities for safaris, boating, paddling, day and/or night hiking, biking, and even horseback riding.
  • Day 12: Return to Cuiabá and depart.

Itinerary Overview:

Join us at the magnificent Anavilhanas Lodge for an extraordinary 4-nights in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest. A variety of activities will be available to offer an in-depth overview of the region’s abundant wildlife, diverse landscapes, and fascinating indigenous culture. We will have many opportunities to cruise the negro and amazon rivers, canoe, hike, and spotlight. The primary highlights for mammal watchers will be searching for two species of river dolphins, Boto and Tucuxi, and searching for some 17 species of primates (some very sought after) and 3 species of Sloths.

  • Day 1: Arrive in Manaus and transfer to the stunning Anavilhanas Lodge.
  • Day 2-4: Explore the magnificent Anavilhanas Archipelago. Search for a vast numbers of birds and mammals, and enjoy an array of unique activities in the Amazon Rainforest.
  • Day 5: Return to Manaus and depart for Brasilia in the Afternoon.
