RFI: Guide for a day trip from KL to Kuala Selangor for Silvered Leaf Langurs

Hello.

We’ll be in KL for a few days in July, and would like to go for a day trip to Kuala Selangor to see Silvered Leaf Langurs. Any recommendation for a guide (with a car) to take use there? Bonus points for any other wildlife and/or interesting birding. Thank you.

    Hi,

We used the services of Weng Chun in March 2024 on a 9 day mainly bird watching trip. He is extremely reliable and knowledgeable and we saw the Silver Leaf Langurs when with him. His website is https://malaysianbirder.blogspot.com/ and email is nature2pixel@gmail.com.

Ask him what other birds you can see in the area.

If he is already booked he has a network of contacts and I’d be surprised if he wouldn’t put you in touch with someone who can help you.

    We can thoroughly recommend him.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Thank you! Weng Chun came up in almost all my searches, always with great recommendations. I’ll contact him as soon as our dates/itinerary are set. Still re-arranging the order or places to make it easier logistically…

You don’t need a guide at all. If you don’t want a to rent a car then when you are in KL just organize a car with driver to take you to the main entrance of the reserve where they hang out and from there you can walk up to the lighthouse where they also hang out. I have been there a few times and overnighted as well. For birds (and otters) just walk the loop in the reserve. Also good for night walks (mind the kraits though).

The area around Fraser’s Hill, about 2-3 hours drive north of KL is a good place to find them and other nice mammals. No guides needed, they are not difficult. Plenty of lodging at Fraser’s Hill as well

Hi Brett. I think the target species being discussed is Selangor Silvered Langur (Trachypithecus selangorensis); and that is not found at Fraser’s Hill.

    Paul and Brett, thank you!!

Yes Paul, that’s the langur we’re after. Also, for a day trip only when I want to do some early birding too, Fraser’s Hill seems too far, we’d spend too much time in the car. I’d like to stay closer to KL to maximize the time out of the car. Thanks!!
