Almost a year after my first visit to Madagascar, here is the full report. It was a wild ride with 130 mammal species seen across 22 different locations. Highlights included Indri, Aye-aye, Grandidier’s Mongoose, Fossa, Dobson’s Shrew Tenrec, Madagascar Giant Mastiff Bat, Eastern Sucker-footed Bat, Danfoss’s Mouse Lemur, 14 Sportive Lemurs and 8 Sifakas!

Enjoy!!

I’ve been looking forward to this one. Just scanned to make sure there are no pics of me mid vomit!

Chad, I was feeling too queasy myself to worry about embarrassing photos of you haha. Hope you enjoy reliving our trip!

What a fantastic detailed trip report, with brilliant photos. Madagascar is on my list, this is really super helpful. Thanks, Alex.
Ps. What would you say is the best month for travel there? (In terms of weather and mammal spotting). October, as you did?
    Craig,

Thank you so much for the kind words Craig!

I have nothing to personally compare to, but October was fantastic for me. I’ve heard September is good as well. Fossas are easier in Sept/Early October. Actually, Patrick suggested we move our Kirindy visit earlier in the month for this reason.

I also found October into November gave more of a chance for Tenrecs as it gets closer to the rainy season when they’re active. Although we still weren’t able to find any Tailless Tenrecs 🙁

Fantastic report, Alex! A report like yours with such high quality photos is 1000 times more meaningful, more educational and more useful for science.
