The Weekly Recap

Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!

To start the week off we have this brief trip report from Jonas Livet about finding the Azores Noctule bat on Pico Island. I must say I made the wise decision to take a nap instead of go look for it with him, Rūta and my dad but I’m glad they were successful.

Mark Hows’ trip to Romania with Saker tours saw the mega rarity Grey Dwarf Hamster, only the second time it’s been seen alive in Romania in 70 years! They also saw Ural Mouse, Roe Deer, Hazel Dormouse and more good species.

Part 4 of Pieter de Groot Boersma’s mammals of Australia video series is here with more wallabies, kangaroos and wallaroos.

Primavest tour company’s trip to East and Central Java this summer was successful, with a total of 18 mammal species in a week – including Silvery Gibbon, Javan Chevrotain and Javan Fuscous Leaf Monkey.

Karl Van Ginderdeuren and Pieter-Jan D’Hondt’s quest to turn camera trapping into a means of good photography is a really fun and interesting read, with some pretty magical resulting photos of everything from a European Wild Cat to a Snow Leopard (and a very majestic chicken).

Coke Smith would still love some advice on his trip to Australia next summer – check out his post to see his rough itinerary and make some mammal suggestions! And again speaking of Australia, some good Tassie Devil locations would be greatly appreciated here

Finally, the global mammal taxonomy list has just been updated with all of the newest official lumps and splits. There are also some new league tables, so go fill in your lists and help bruise my dad’s ego.

And as always, check out the join a trip page to choose your next mammal adventure: upcoming trips include a Congo river cruise, Romania Mole-rat extravaganza and an epic Antarctic expedition!
