Mammals of Sulawesi and Komodo: A July 2024 Adventure with Cheesemans’ Ecology Safaris
Our recent July 2024 expedition was a thrilling journey through lush rainforests, diverse ecosystems, and vibrant marine life, showcasing the incredible biodiversity of these unique regions.
Sulawesi: A Hidden Gem of Biodiversity
Our adventure began in Sulawesi, a land teeming with endemic species and breathtaking landscapes. We explored Tangkoko National Park, nestled between four volcanoes and facing the Molluca Sea. Here, we were greeted by the endemic black-crested macaques and had the rare opportunity to release leatherback sea turtle hatchlings into the sea—an experience few have had globally.
With the guidance of our expert leaders, we embarked on early morning treks to spot the Sulawesi Knobbed Hornbill and the elusive spectral tarsier. The forests were alive with diverse bird species, from Green-backed Kingfishers to Ochre-bellied Boobooks. Despite the occasional rain, our spirits remained high as we continued to discover the wonders of Sulawesi.
