Trip Report – Clouded Leopard Expedition (Nepal) – Royle Safaris – November 2023

This is a trip report from the repeat of Royle Safaris exploratory Clouded Leopard Expedition to Nepal. The trip was ran in November 2023 and was guided by Mike Gordon and Hari Basnit (a Nepali clouded leopard researcher). The trip once again explored parts of the stunning and vast Langtang National Park and whilst we didn’t see a clouded leopard we did find tracks of the animal and ended up finding 12 species of mammals including Himalayan red pandas, Hodgson’s Giant Flying Squirrel and Yellow-throated Martens.

The trip also had over 95 species of birds seen, including many Himalayan endemics. The trip is one we will be running again, as we are confident we have found the place to try for the Indochinese clouded leopard. For anyone interested in future expeditions to look for the species or to the Himalayas in general, please contact us (info@royle-safaris.co.uk) and we can discuss options and provide more information.
