Trip Report – Pygmy Hippo Expedition – Royle Safaris – April 2023
In April 2023 Royle Safaris returned to Tai Forest National Park in Cote d’Ivoire for our second Pygmy Hippo Expedition. Guided by Zarek Cockar and with the help of local guides and rangers we were successful in a sighting of a Pygmy Hippo as well as having some other fantastic mammal sightings, such as White-bellied Pangolin (two individuals seen), Johnston’s Genet, Water Chevrotain, Nagtaglas’s African Dormouse and a very likely African Golden Cat; as well as 10 species of primates including Chimps, Diana Monkeys, Western Red Colobus, Sooty Mangabeys, West African Potto and Olive Colobus.
We had a total of 35 species of mammals recorded, 133 species of birds, 17 species of reptiles and 4 species of amphibians.
We will be running a repeat of this trip in May 2024 (9-19 May), however we only have 1 place remaining on this trip. If anyone is interested please get in touch (info@royle-safaris.co.uk) for more info. We will be also running the trip in 2025 and so if anyone cannot make it in 2024 but would like to know more about the following year we can add you to our mailing list.
