New Trip Report – Bulgaria
Two weeks ago there were no Bulgarian reports on mammalwatching.com. Now we have two: is Bulgaria the new European mammal destination? It certainly sounds pretty nice based on this report from Mike Richardson.
Bulgaria, 2015: Mike Richardson, 1 week & 13 species including Eastern Hedgehog, European Wildcat, Beech Marten and Balkan Short-tailed Mouse.

I didn’t have time to do much research before the trip but the site in my report is the only place I could find where Marbled Polecat is seen with any regularity (by bird guides mostly). Even then they are extremely rare sightings but I doubt many people actually go looking for them. If a more reliable site exists in Bulgaria I would be very interested in making a second, more mammal focused trip to the country while it’s still so cheap to visit.

Some sources mention Cape Kaliakra (accidentally, also the last place on the Black Sea where monk seals have been recorded back in the 1970s).

There is supposed to be a site for marbled polecat somewhere in Bulgaria, but I’ve never been able to find any details. Does anybody know?
