Taxonomy news

1. Thomasomys pardignasi described from the montane forests of the Cordilleras del Cóndor and Kutukú in Ecuador.
2. Gould’s long-eared bats from Western Australia split as Nyctophilus holtorum. The authors’ data suggest that West Australian N. geoffroyi might also be worth splitting.
3. A new paper shows that Multispecies Coalescent Model widely used for splitting species is fundamentally flawed. That means that a significant portion of recently published vertebrate splits are invalid. Expect a lot of lumping in the near future.
P.S. I told you so 🙂
