Places near Pantanal?
Dear mammal watchers.
We are going to the pantanal right now and will stay around 2 weeks there. After that we have 2 more weeks to go to another place. Either we will try to make our way to Paraguay or we stay in Brazil. So, we are looking for other nice areas close by which are good mammalwatching places. There is of course Emas but there is also parks like Santa Barbara, Chapada dos Guimaraes, south pantanal or also Serra Ricardo Franco.
Can anyone of you recommend one of these places? Or does anyone have other ideas? And would it be possible to do night drives in these places?

It’s not mammals, but there is an incredibly clear stretch of the Rio de Prata that is accessible from Bonito. The clearest river you will ever see, you do a drift snorkel down the river. The hugest fish! The operation us well organized, provides gear and lunch, all that. Check it out on tripadvisor. I will make it back there one day to do this again!

It might be worth checking out some of the previous Pantanal trips Michael Ellis has lead there (http://www.footlooseforays.com/). I was on one in 2007 and it was awesome for mammals and other wildlife. I look forward to hearing about your travels there.

Das Emas National Park is one of the best mammalwatching places in the Cerrado, and not far from southern Pantanal.

Sounds great. Where in the pantanal are you going? The South pantanal has a very different vibe to the north so that is worth going to if you want. Have you considered caraca monastery for the maned wolves? Also there’s the amazon and iguazu falls..
