Mystery shrew
This shrew was hand-caught in a dry tundra-like bog near Dillingham, Alaska. Hb=40 mm, t=20 mm, hf=9.5 mm (too small to be an adult of any Alaskan species). Sorex cinereus in that area had more bicolored tails, and S. minutissimus have more slender snouts, so I’m thinking either S. hoyi (but they are darker in other parts of range) or S. monticolus (with tail tip missing). Any ideas?

Update: apparently, the snout is too blunt for anything other than S. hoyi.
