Saola
I attended a lecture last evening by Bill Robichaud, a saola expert and a leader in developing conservation programs for them. If you ever have the chance to hear him speak, go. Fascinating stuff for any mammal nerd. Lots of photos of saola and other cool mammals of the Annamite Mountains.
The issues facing the Annamite Mountains are heartbreaking and incomprehensible. But unlike many issues, the main problem there is solvable. Snares are devastating but it’s not like dealing with energy development. The habitat is still intact.
An interesting related book is Saving the Unicorn by William DeBuys.
I will be writing a full-length blog on Cool Green Science soon.
