I've been interested in animals since I was a toddler. As this letter to Father Christmas shows, I was keen on building my mammal list even when I was 7, albeit plastic ones for my toy zoo. The sharp eyed will note also a worrying interest in birds, but luckily this was stamped out. And no, I have no idea why I asked for a bible. I guess I was just playing safe. It wasn't until I left the UK and spent 1991 in Zambia that I really got into mammal watching. Since then I've spent time watching mammals in the USA, India, Nepal, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, the UK, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Borneo, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Ethiopia, Namibia, Canada, France, Colombia, Brazil, New Zealand, China, Japan, Korea, Spain, Tunisia, Russia, Bhutan, Chile, Kyrgyzstan, Costa RIca, Syria, Estonia, Indonesia, New Caledonia, Hungary and a lot of time in Australia, my home since 1999 (though since late 2005 I have been living in France). I've also picked up a few interesting species while I've been in the Middle East and elsewhere. My life list is here. The trip report pages have some more information about what I've seen and where.
Mammalwatching.com is a way to share some of the snippets of mammal watching information I've picked up along the way. I hope over time that others will add to my very limited knowledge.
