I've been to Italy several times but never tried looking for mammals on the mainland - I've been too busy eating and drinking. I understand that Porcupines are fairly common in Tuscany, even just outside of Florence and if I ever get tired of the food I will try looking for them next time I'm there.

Sicily
Bosco del Ficuzza - I spent a day here at the Ficuzza Forest, near Corleone looking for wildlife during a work trip to Sicily in November 2004. Didn’t see any mammals during the day, but a couple of hours spotlighting found a Western Hedgehog, several Red Deer, a couple of Red Foxes and, what I was after, a Corsican Hare (just on the edge of the park at Ficuzza village).
